Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. New York, Fall 2012
As I wished I were actually attending one of the runway shows inside the tents at Mercedes Benz fashion week, I was as close as I could get. I virtually watched ten to twelve shows this weekend on a live feed. From the music to the clothes to the attendees, it was definitely the place to be. One of the greatest parts about living in the digital age is everyone can experience an event that is somewhat private, for the high-class celebrities and fashion gurus. I not only watched the live feed of the runway shows, but I also got first looks and backstage passes through Instagram and Twitter. One of my favorite shows this weekend, held at pier 94, was Alexander Wang. Mirrors were set up in a strategic maze formation with dramatic lighting, so as the models walked down, around and through you could see every angle and viewof the outfit they were wearing. Alexander Wang got Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen to strut her stuff and close the show. She was sporting a long leather military inspired trenchcoat. The overall show was very dark and moody, the tones were hard yet mature and hip and up to the young designers standards. Some are even beginning to say he is becoming the new Marc Jacobs. My other favorite show was Christian Siriano. Man he has come a long way since winning Project Runway and “fierce!” If I was a star and needed a gown, I would definitely turn to him for his elegance and sense of color and texture. All his pieces were timeless and beautiful along with his sense of style and beauty it is amazing how one can create such a stunning show. There were so many exquisite and elegant shows that anyone who loves fashion would be privileged to attend them. Even though leather never goes out of style, it was one of the most noticeable looks, seen everywhere on the runway, clean-cut lines and patterns with solid colors. I can’t wait to see all the trends this fall. You can still catch some of the shows and watch recaps here: http://www.youtube.com/user/LiveRunway/MBFW fashion week ends this Thursday, February 16.
Other notable designers that were on my top list are:
Tracy Reese, Tadashi Shoji, Herve Leger By Max Azria and Diane Von Furstenberg.
