“Don’t rush into the next phase of your life… whatever it is you try, make sure it is what you really want to do because the only person who knows what that is, is you.”

Some of my Favorite Designs at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, New York, Fall 2012

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. New York, Fall 2012

As I wished I were actually attending one of the runway shows inside the tents at Mercedes Benz fashion week, I was as close as I could get. I virtually watched ten to twelve shows this weekend on a live feed. From the music to the clothes to the attendees, it was definitely the place to be. One of the greatest parts about living in the digital age is everyone can experience an event that is somewhat private, for the high-class celebrities and fashion gurus. I not only watched the live feed of the runway shows, but I also got first looks and backstage passes through Instagram and Twitter. One of my favorite shows this weekend, held at pier 94, was Alexander Wang. Mirrors were set up in a strategic maze formation with dramatic lighting, so as the models walked down, around and through you could see every angle and viewof the outfit they were wearing. Alexander Wang got Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen to strut her stuff and close the show. She was sporting a long leather military inspired trenchcoat. The overall show was very dark and moody, the tones were hard yet mature and hip and up to the young designers standards. Some are even beginning to say he is becoming the new Marc Jacobs. My other favorite show was Christian Siriano. Man he has come a long way since winning Project Runway and “fierce!” If I was a star and needed a gown, I would definitely turn to him for his elegance and sense of color and texture. All his pieces were timeless and beautiful along with his sense of style and beauty it is amazing how one can create such a stunning show. There were so many exquisite and elegant shows that anyone who loves fashion would be privileged to attend them. Even though leather never goes out of style, it was one of the most noticeable looks, seen everywhere on the runway, clean-cut lines and patterns with solid colors. I can’t wait to see all the trends this fall. You can still catch some of the shows and watch recaps here: http://www.youtube.com/user/LiveRunway/MBFW fashion week ends this Thursday, February 16.

Other notable designers that were on my top list are:

Tracy Reese, Tadashi Shoji, Herve Leger By Max Azria and Diane Von Furstenberg.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

Contribution to my Team

“Existing for something greater than yourself is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding things you can ever do. Thinking and living for others is the way to be, in and outside of the team.” –Author Unknown

If it weren’t for the people that make up a team we would all merely be swimming back and fourth staring at the black line. But with the help and encouragement of teammates and ones own determination and drive, it all begins to have a purpose. No mater what kind of day I am having, whenever I come to swim practice it all seems to go away. Having teammates that support you and make you laugh can make all the difference. As a team member of PEAK I will strive to be supportive of my teammates, encouraging them all the way, if that were in practice or at a meet. Keeping a positive attitude will help not only myself but also the people around me. Negative thoughts, actions and words can distract and become irritating. We should conquer sets as a team and not only as individuals. Saying words of support, throwing out fist pumps and high fives can make all the difference and help a teammate to make it through the long strenuous workouts. Being apart of PEAK or a team in general makes you learn how to work with different people and get to know people you would have never thought to become friends with. As a teammate I feel it is my role to show up to practice ready to work hard, have a positive attitude and be there if one of my teammates needs me.

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.” – Author Unknown
